What's up, everybody? Welcome to another episode of the p w podcast. I'm your host, Peter Witham. You can find me and this podcast at peterwitham.com. This episode, I'm gonna talk a little bit about the interesting change that is already here, and it's a change of perception.
Peter:And I heard a conversation this week, overheard, I should say, and it got me to thinking. And I guess we've reached the tipping point already because what I was listening to was a couple of people talking, and one of them, you know, was saying about they've come up with some really cool stuff, and they're showing this other person. And as they're showing the other person, they they turned around and said, you know, wait. That's great. You must have used AI for that.
Peter:Right? And it looks really cool. And this, I thought, was interesting because the perception now is already changing that if there's something out there that's really great and done really quickly, and maybe being done really quickly is the important part of that statement. I don't know. But the perception is already turning to the fact that people will just assume by default, you must have used some AI tools to get it done.
Peter:Right? And what a terrible way to think about things, right, that we have so quickly reached this point where people no longer look at it and go, wow. This person's really talented. You did a fantastic job on this. How creative are you?
Peter:You know, whatever compliment you wanna think about it. And it's almost a slap in the face now to just say, that's really great. Hey. What AI tool did you use? You must have used AI.
Peter:Right? I mean, you just wouldn't go around saying that to people. Right? In previous years, you wouldn't look at a painter and go, hey. That's a really great painting.
Peter:You know? Hey. Did you use tool x y z to do that? No. You acknowledge that that person made a great painting.
Peter:That writer wrote something really interesting and, you know, thought provoking. And yet here we are already assuming tools have done this for somebody because it's that good. And this is a awful turning point, I think, that I guess I always knew was coming at some point. I was not surprised, but I was surprised we got here this quickly. And I'm curious if other folks have experienced this because as a content creator myself and someone who makes things of all different types, yeah, yeah, I use AI tools for certain things, but I don't expect people to automatically assume that, you know, the AI tools did all the fantastic hard work, and and I was just here along for the ride to help out with little bits on this and that.
Peter:Right? I am still the primary producer of whatever it may be and the decision maker and the creative driving force behind it. I'm just using a tool to help me get it done in as much as I would use a word processor or a photo retouching program, you know, some software creation tool to make an interface or whatever it may be. And I think it's a sad day when we start looking at it from the perspective of the tools did this for somebody, and that person helped the tools out. Anyway, just wanted to put that out there as just a little thing that I really felt I had to put out and say this week, even though it's just a short little comment.
Peter:Love to hear if this has happened to you. I hope it hasn't, but I fear that even if it hasn't happened to you yet, it probably will do at some point. Reach out to me, Peter Witham dot com forward slash contact, and share your thoughts. And if enough people share their thoughts, maybe I'll try and put it together into an episode to respond or something like that. But it's just an interesting comment on the times we live in, not only as someone who creates things, but just in general that we assume polls have done it and not us because it did such a good job.
Peter:That's it folks. I will speak to you in the next one.
